Der erste Mittwoch im Februar ist ein wichtiger Tag für junge Footballspieler in den USA. Denn an diesem Tag endet die Recruitingphase und die Spieler müssen bekannt geben, für welches College sie sich entschieden haben. So auch für den ehemaligen Berlin Adler Björn Werner.

Björn Werner ist eines der größten Talente, wenn nicht sogar das größte Talent, dass die Berlin Adler bisher hervorgebracht haben. Er durchlief alle Jugendabteilungen von der Flagmannschaft bis zur GFLJ Mannschaft bei uns und krönte seine Leistungen mit dem Gewinn der Jugendmeisterschaft 2009. Sein Talent und seine harte Arbeit und sein Trainingsfleiß ermöglichten ihm den Schritt in die USA wo er an der Salsibury School in Connecticut spielte. Dort konnte er an die hier, bei den Adlern gezeigten Leistungen anknüpfen und erhielt Studienangebote von vielen großen Universitäten. Die US-amerikanischen Scouting-Portale schätzten ihn sehr hoch ein. Hier ein paar Auszüge:

“Werner is an awesome, but raw specimen. He is very strong at the point of attack, using his long arms very well and has a quick burst into the backfield. He can be dominant at times up front and has the closing speed to catch up to just about anybody. Werner shows great athleticism for his size in coverage and often knocks down balls. Gestern war es dann soweit Björn gab seine Auswahl, die sich vorher auf die Florida State University und die University of Oregon reduziert hatte, live auf ESPN bekannt. Er wird für Florida State spielen.
